Conflict Check
A critical function in any legal case management system is the ability to produce accurate conflict reports. Within defenderData, this is an extremely powerful function that will help to avoid costly work being performed on cases that should be conflicted out to external counsel. From the case file tab, a Conflict Check link exists that produces the report shown here.

In order to produce this report, defenderData searches through all names of the individuals related to the case file, including victims, witnesses, and the defendant. The search includes any alias information present on these individuals and locates any other references present on previous cases where a conflict might exist. The system is even smart enough to search for name variations and knows that "William" is the same as "Bill" or "Willie".
The conflict report is displayed for the end-user to review and make the final determination of a case is in conflict or not. Most of the time, the user performing the search is not ultimately responsible for determining the conflict but can be trained to look for certain conditions and can "Flag" the case file as a potential conflict when certain conditions are found. Once the case is flagged as a potential conflict, the attorney(s) involved in the cases can determine if it is indeed a conflict and either clear the potential conflict flag or send the case out to external counsel.
