Events

Events are tracked within defenderData under three main sections: Scheduled hearings, Ticklers, and Time Entry.  Scheduled hearings/appointments logged under the case file are immediately populated in the respective calendars of the attorneys and staff working on the case as is appropriate.  These appointments can be managed from the perspective of each user within their individual calendar and will be further discussed later in this document.

Ticklers can be created as reminders of future events or deadlines.  It is also possible to have ticklers created automatically by the system triggered by other activity on the case file.  For example, it might be desirable to have the system create a tickler when a felony case is closed to remind the attorney on the case of a deadline to file an appeal following closure with a guilty disposition, etc..  Ticklers can also be created manually for whatever purpose a user sees necessary and can be very useful for not letting important dates pass unnoticed.

Time entries can be created on case files to track hours spent working on a case.  While this feature is not intended to replace a typical billing application, it can be useful in other situations, e.g. when doing case weighting studies, etc.   In addition to this screen where time can be logged on an individual case, defenderData provides a "punch clock" interface where time can be logged against multiple cases on the same screen.
