Notes

The Notes tab allows for information of a less structured nature to be logged to the case file.  An unlimited number of notes can be added to the case file, and each note can contain up to 32,000 characters or about 8 pages of text.  Notes are a critical aspect of a case file and typically include a record of any important discussion with the defendant, or opposing counsel.  Additionally, the notes maintenance facility allows for shortcuts to sending messages or assigning tasks to other users in the office.  These items are discussed in more detail in the following pages.

One additional useful function within the notes is the ability to make a note "sticky".  When this check box is set, a yellow sticky note will pop up containing the information in the note for any user that accesses the case file.  This is a good way to make sure that very important information is not overlooked.
